Youth Programs

Recognizing that the future of our organization, are our children, one of DWWC's primary missions is the continued investment in youth experiences and programs. Programs are planned throughout the year to further the interest and education of our children.

Our club has been committed to providing outdoor opportunities to young men and women who might not otherwise be able to experience these types of activities. We sponsor outings for youth to places such as

  • On June 7, 2008, National Fishing Day

Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens, Texas

Woods and Waters Foundation was a sponsor of this yearly event and was attended by several hundred visitors and several members. We also invited children from the Buckner Children and Family Services. If you missed this year, make a note to save the first Saturday of June for next year. You will enjoy the thrill of watching a child catch their first fish as well as a great tour of the nice facilities of the hatchery.

  • June 8-13, 2008 Annual Vermejo Summer Youth Camp

Vermejo Park Ranch in northern New Mexico.
“My father, Ted Turner, put so much trust in me to buy property, it was like a land rush.  I didn’t have time to finish a master’s I had started at Montana State.  I began pulling down millions of miles——smashing records for Delta.  Dad would buy so many ranches —-twenty, fifty, sixty million dollar properties all over the world.  Ranches that were for sale, ranches that were not for sale.  I literally found the sales brochure for Vermejo Ranch in the trash can.  And that became our single biggest and most successful landholding”, said Beau Turner.  One of the main objections of Ted Turner is conservation on all of property he has purchased.
At 588,000 acres New Mexico’s Vermejo Park Ranch is the largest parcel of private land in the United States.  The North Carolina’s Great Smoky Mountains National Park is only 520,000 acres, as printed in 1997 Fortune Magazine that declared Ted Turner the nation’s largest private landowner in the wake of the Vermejo acquisition.

Our annual trip to Vermejo Ranch in New Mexico with 16 youth. Alan Linson chaired the trip this year and made this a memorable event for the 10 boys and 6 girls along with chaperones who furnished transportation and assistance with fly-fishing and meal preparations.

DWWC has donated money to several Texas Brigade Projects. The reports on the projects have been published in our magazine, The Banner.

Dallas Woods and Waters Club Foundation (Woods and Waters Foundation) will make a donation of $100 to a potential Eagle Scout for his project. In turn he will send us pictures and an articles for out magazine, The Banner as well as our Newletter.

A very worthwhile project was planned and carried out by Andrew Stack and his team for a Meditation Garden
located on the Memorial Walkway of the Dallas-Fort Worth Cemetery overlooking Veteran Lake.

With the help of 11 youth and Scouts, the Meditation Garden was completed on April 5, 2008. The garden will be around for years to come and will allow visitors and veterans to rest and reflect on those that have served our country and their loved ones.

Andrew is a grand son of Don Chaney and nephew of David Chaney, members of our club. The DWWC Foundation (WWF) made a $100 donation to Andrew.

Thank you, Andrew, for such a great project and a job will done. We look forward to visiting your project in the near future. Also we would love to have you as a member of Dallas Woods and Waters Club to follow in the foot steps of your granddad and uncle.

DWWC also provides financial support to the following organizations: Buckner Children's Home, Operation Orphans, YMCA of Richardson, Texas, Texas Brigades, Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center, and Boy Scouts and Explorer Scouts.
