Arrive on Wednesday, October 13, Fish the 14th - 15th, Check Out on Friday, October 15th just in time for the weekend!!
While redfish remain in the shallow bays for the first three years of their lives, each year as weather starts to transition from hot summer to cooler fall temperatures, a migration of the breeding stock starts to push the largest 3 to 4 year old redfish out to the Gulf of Mexico for spawning season and to live out the rest of their adult lives.
One of the most anticipated annual occurrences along the Texas coast is the bull redfish run. During the fall run, fisherman line up on the deep channels that run from the bays to the Gulf and specifically on all of the jetties that line the exit of these passes. More “bull” reds (actually female) are caught during this migration than any other time of the year. To protect the fishery, the State of Texas has wisely put tight limits on the number of reds over 28 inches each angler can take home. Most bull redfish are caught and released so they can spawn. Some slot Reds, 20” to 28”, will stage along the passes and channels along with the migrating fish. Black Drum and and Speckled Trout can also be found in this mix. All these can be retained for a more tasty consumption up to legal limits.
Two days of fishing is available with our package. Fishing is booked for Thursday, October 14th, and Friday, October 15th. DWWC has booked Benny’s Guide Service, in Port O’Connor TX., to help us capture this phenomenon. Captain Benny is an experienced angler and published expert on the Texas bull redfish run. He will make sure we get on fish and have a great time out on the water. Benny’s trips are relatively short. We will spend 4 - 5 hours on the water each day. With a close-by fishery, and the fish packed together with an agenda, we’ll get them in shorter time. Benny has found the bite to be often over by mid-day, making the 1/2 day trip his best customer value. Benny has booked an additional boat for us each day so that we can fish 8 people, 4 per boat. We’ll be aboard 26’ class center consoles with T-tops powered for a maximum cruising speeds of approximately 38 knots. Fishing in October will be good. In addition to targeted Redfish, we might expect to catch surprise near shore species such as Jack Crevalle, Cobia, Red Snapper, Kingfish, and Blacktip Shark!
Each day, we can buy our bait for around $25 per person. After each trip, the captain can drop off our catch at the local fish house where we can have it filleted to our liking for a small fee, or we can just use the guides cleaning table if we prefer.
